sea creatures part 2
this project was based around symbolism related to the sea; retelling mythology and ancient stories from various cultures. drawing on the goddess and other figures. the unity of female and nature. looking at environmental issues, the stories of the sea people, the sirens and the little mermaid in particular highlight the way oceans are rising, beautiful places are disappearing and sea life is being washed ashore. my editorial of the sirens can also tell a story of two young mer-girls who's island home is disappearing as the water rises, and they have no way to escape. part 2 Andromeda- (Greek myth) the beautiful daughter of King Cepheus and Queen Cassiope. Cassiope offended the nymphs by boasting her Andromeda was beautiful than them. In revenge Posiedon sent a sea monster to devestate Cepheus' Kingdom. Since only Andromeda's sacrifice would appease the Gods she was chained to a rock and left to be devoured. Perseus fell in love with her and slew the monster Nereids- (Greek myth) nymphs of the sea. minor female deities depicted in the form of young maidens. they represented different facets of the sea; the foam, the waves, the currents etc.
